Possession Claim Adjourned 14 Days

A claim for possession of a house in Beach Road, Onerahi, and arrears of rent totalling £27/10/-, was heard before Mr W. C. Harley, S.M., at the Whangarei Court this morning. The case was adjourned for a foi’tnight. The claimant was Harold Wilfred Browne (Mr Gerard), the defendant being Albert John Andi-ews, wharf labourer, of Whangarei. Browne, who was living with a son at Dargaville, stated that he had purchased the house last year. Andrews was in possession at that time. He had paid some rent at 10/- per week but was now £27/10/- in arrears. Possession was claimed on three grounds. Rent was in arrears, reasonable care had not been taken of the house and possession was required so that he could reconstruct the building for his own use, Browne stated. Andrews, admitted that rent was in arrears for the amount claimed, stated that he was endeavouring to find alternative accommodation for his wife and three sons, as. well as himself. INSPECTION DESIRED He denied that he had not taken reasonable cax-e of the place and said that two bi-oken windows which the claimant had mentioned had been blown out by the wind. Rent had not been paid because he wanted the owner to inspect the building thoroughly. To Mr Gei'ard he said he hoped to find accommodation for himself and his family within a fortnight.
