Refused To Pay For Restaurant- Meal
An order to make restitution of 3/3 for a meal eaten but not paid for in a restaurant was made against Dick Nathan, 29, Maori labourer, by the magistrate (Mr W. C. Harley) in the Whangarei Court yesterday. Nathan was charged that in incurring a debt of 3/3 with Ivan Markovina for one meal he did obtain credit by fraud. On a second charge of being found drunk in Cameron Street he was discharged.
He pleaded guilty to both charges
Senior-Sergeant J. Sutherland said Nathan and two other men ordered a meal in a restaurant, ate it. and left, saying that the third man would pay the bill. This he refused to do, and 'also left.
Accosting the men in the street later a waitress asked for payment. A constable then arrived and. seeing that Nathan was undo' the influence of liquor, locked him up. Nathan was ordered by the magistrate to make restitution of the 3/3 before noon today.
