Opportunities For Country Cricketers
The New Zealand Cricket Council, intends to stage a number of trial j games this season to give all country players of note a chance to play before the national selectors. This is being done in preparation for the tour of England by a New Zea- , land team next year. Mr H. B. Massey (Whangarei), a former North Island and Wellington representative, informed the Northland association annual meeting last night ; that he had acceded to a request from : the NZCC to act as one of three selec- ; tors from Northland. Poverty Bay and Waikato to pick teams for a minor associations’ Possibles v. Probables [ match to be played next January. 1 The Auckland association also in- . tirnated that it was staging a town v. ' country match early in December to l bring leading country players before its Plunket Shield selectors. . Mr Massey stressed the importance ' of players practising assiduously if t they hoped to be nominated for any f of these trial games.
He pointed out that lie would be on the look-out for likely Auckland and New Zealand representatives.
