Five Traffic Cases At Court Today
Five breaches of the traffic regulations were heard by Mr W. C. Harley S.M., at the Whangarei Court today. Neville Featherston . Fraser was fined £2, with 12/- costs, for having' no driver’s licence, £l, with 12/- costs for having defective lights and, 10/-, with 12/- costs, for carrying faulty licence plates. i For driving a motor vehicle on the Hikurangi-Kamo Road at over 40 m.p.h., Frank Edward Foster (Mr D. J. Thomson) was fined £3 with 11/costs. Mr Thomson said Foster admitted doing over 40 miles, as he had a business appointment to keep. He had complimented Inspector G. Hunter, of the Transport Department, on his courtesy, Mr Thomson added. A, similar charge was, faced by Keith Robert White, who was doing m.p.h. when stopped by the inspector. White was fined £3, with 10/- costs. Hardie Brothers, Ltd., were charged with having a truck load extending further backwards than 4ft from the body of the vehicle. A. R. Pryde pleaded guilty to this, saying the firm was not aware of the nature of the load.
Inspector Hunter said the overhang extended lift, which was very dangerous in the borough. The firm was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs. COW DROPPED OUT
'When a cow fell from the back of a truck and “landed on the broad of its back in the middle of the road,” according to Inspector Hunter, the incident led to .the appearance in court of Colin Ernest Hawken (Mr D. J. Thomson),' charged with driving a vehicle so loaded as to be liable to cause injury to any person. The inspector said the cow fell from the truck on to the road because the gate of the truck was not fastened. “When the truck swerved the cow got out,”,he explained. • Mr Thomson said that while Hawken had been fastening thfe gate he hit his hand and was so busy comforting it that he forgot to complete his work. Hawken was convicted and ordered to pay 10/.- costs.
