OBITUARY
Mrs Sarah Vyle
A staunch member of the Salvation Army and a former adjutant of the Whangarei corps, Mrs Sarah Vyle died at her residence in Central Avenue, Whangarei, on Thursday morning. Mrs Vyle was born at Hamilton 73 years ago. She was a daughter of Mr and Mrs William Andrew, pioneers of the Waikato.
Mrs Vyle lived at Hamilton until about 20 years of age, when she became an officer in the Salvation Army, and was stationed in various towns in New Zealand.
She met Mr William Edwin Vyle in Oxford, Canterbury, and married him there in 1905.
As married officers, they were stationed at several different centres, eventually retiring to Whangarei about 1916.
In Whangarei, Mrs Vyle was an active member of the Salvation Army, and prominent in social and temperance work, being president of the Whangarei branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union for many years.
Mrs Vyle was buried on Saturday with full Salvation Army honours. The’ Army band preceded the hearse, and the funeral ceremony was conducted by the commander of the Auckland Province (Brigadier S. Bridge). Mrs Vyle is survived by her husband. three sons, Messi's Edwin Vyle (Auckland), Howard Vyle (Otoro- ! hanga) and Bert Vyle (Whangarei), | and four daughters, Mrs W. Hawkins (Dargaville), Mrs L. Wilton (Whangarei). Mrs F. Bridges (Whangarei) and Mrs L; W. Keys (Kaitaia). There are nine grandchildren. ] Formerly manager of the Railway : Road Services for the Auckland district. Mr? J. Hannah has been appointed staff superintendent of the | Railways Department.
