Primary Schools Tourney Opens
Fifty-nine young footballers assembled at Dargaville yesterday for the annual tournament of the North Auckland Primary School’s Rugby Union.
The carnival opened today with the following teams taking part:— Mangonui - Whangaroa, Whangarei - Rodney. Bay of Islands-Hokianga, and Northern Wairoa-Otamatea.
Six matches are to be played and the boys return home on Friday. FIRST SINCE WAR
This is file first primary schools tournament to be held in Northland since before the war, and its revival is due in large measure to the enthusiasm and energy of Mr L. J. R. Meek, of Ruawai, who is chairman of the committee.
The boys are being billeted privately and Mr Meek and his fellow organisers had no trouble in arranging accommodation in Dargaville. This afternoon the two first games feature Whangarei-Rodney v. Mango-nui-Whangaroa, and Northern WairoaOtamatea v. Bay of Islands-Hokianga.
The annua] meeting of the Primary Schools’ Rugby Union is being held in Dargaville on Thursday.
