368 # 008 Motor Vehicles Registered

WELLINGTON, Mon. (Sp.).—There were 31.295 more motor-vehicles registered this year than last year. In announcing that this figure had set a new record, the Postmaster-Gen-eral (Mr Hackett) said the figure? showed that there were 368,597 vehicles licensed in New Zealand at June 30. compared with 337,302 a year ago. The Minister said the increase in licences had been very marked during the past few months. In the first six months of this year registrations had increased by 24,356. The North Island had 148,595 cars registered, an increase of 11,625, while in the South Island there were 72,272, an increase of 41,161. The North Island had 83.377 commercial vehicles and the South Island 44,726, Mr Hackett added. There were 12,642 motor-cyles registered in the North Island and 6983 in the South Island.
