Cool Welcome For European Union
PARIS, Sun.—The countries of the Western bloc must take the initiative in founding a Federal Parliament and Government for Europe, says the Socialist Party newspaper Populaire. The coolest welcome to France’s call for a provisional European assembly has come, the paper says, from London.
It adds: “There is nothing surprising in this. One must not forget the English insular tradition and Foreign Office prudence on anything that might involve England in narrow cooperation with the Continent.”
The newspaper adds that the English people will soon realise that European federation is the paramount idea among the sorely-tried peoples of Europe.
Sub-Inspector G. H. L. Holt, police prosecutor at Christchurch, is holidaying at Whangarei, where he was stationed some years ago.
