THREE 725, HOLE IN ONE AT MT DENBY

THREE rounds of 72, one under par, and a sensational hole in one imparted a distinctive flavour to Mt Denby golf on Saturday. J. Glanville, A. Aplin and H. Hedley bettered bogey and Glanville capped everything by sinking his tee shot at the 184 yards 18th. The three star performers completed the first nine holes in par figures and were one under coming home.

Glanville’s hole in one gave him the win in the stableford competition on the count-back from the other two and C. Hawken.

WHANGAREI LADIES In the qualifying round for the Hill Rose Bowl, in conjunction with an LGU. four competitors who played under their handicaps were:

Each scored 39 points. Glanville was one over at the first two holes, but retrieved these strokes with birdies at the third and eighth. He conceded a stroke to bogey at the 14th, but the thrilling finale gave him the 72. Aplin was one over at the first, fourth, 14th and 18th, and had birdies at the sixth, eighth, 13th, 16th and 17th.

Senior: Mrs O. Georgeson, 1 under; intermediate: Mrs Lawson, 2 under; junior, Mrs Finch and Miss Campbell, 4 under.

Mrs Aplin bad a net 75 in the seniors, and Mrs Barron and Mrs Jordan 73 in the intermediates.

C. Hawken playeu below his handicap to beat W. J. Orr, junr., in the first round of senior championship match play. Orr was on his game, and had a round of 77, but had to concede the match to Hawken, 2 and 1.

Inter-Provincial Play

AUCKLAND, Mon. (Sp.).—The first inter-provincial golf match 4 to be played in Auckland between Auckland and Wellington had an unfortunate end yesterday when weather conditions caused each of the proposed 36-hole singles matches to be abandoned after 18 holes had been played.

On Saturday, Auckland won each of the six foursomes matches, and' yesterday it led in eight of the 1? singles when the two captains, G. P. Roberts (Wellington) and B. T. Laycock, who had earlier discussed the possibility of cancellation, decided to put an end to the play.
