Mine Strike Settled Soon?
AUCKLAND, Mon. (Sp.)—Feeling in Huntly today is that the mine strike will soon be settled and that there is a chance of resumption tomorrow.
Negotiations were continued at a meeting which lasted two hours today. The president of the United Mine Workers’ Council (Mr A. Prenderville) came from the South Island at the request of the MacDonald Mine strikers to discuss the situation.
Big users of coal in Auckland are scraping near the bottom of their bunkers.
The position is described as precarious. but not yet critical.
