Fiji Currency Ordinance Amended
SUVA, Mon. (11 a.m.)—To curb possible speculation in Fiji currency, a special meeting of the Legislative Council at 8.30 a.m. today amended the Fiji currency notes ordinance.
Hitherto the Commissioners were requested to issue locally on demand Fiji currency notes without limit equivalent to sterling sums above £SOOO lodged with Crown agents in London. The amendment makes such an issuediscretionary for the commissioners.
The Governor has made no statement relative to a possible change in Fiji exchange rates.
