Stonex Expected To Perform Well
WELLINGTON, Mon. (P.A.).—R. Allen Stonex, New Zealand trackracing representative who is competing in the world amateur sprint championship at Amsterdam on Friday, should, judged by his latest form, give a good account of himself. Stonex followed up his . Gosport (England) record-breaking performance of 39.8 s for 586 yards on July 23 with a sweeping success in international company on the same track on August 14. This advice is contained in a cable received by Mr P. N. Robinson, president of the NZACA, from Stonex, who said: “Rode in a few sprints at the international meet in Gosport—three competitors in each —and won them all.”
Mr Robinson said today that, Stonex. being unable to train at I-lernehill (which was open only to Olympic track men), he had made Gosport (Portsmouth) his headquarters. Stonex had intimated that although the cream of Britain’s cyclists, at the time of writing, were away, he had enjoyed plenty of first-class competition in Gosport.
