Wisemans Are A Grade Champions
Basketball
By beating Athletic 27 —11 on Saturday, Wisemans' won the Whangarei A grade basketball championship. The match was fast with both teams handling cleanly, but Wisemans were superior in all phases of play. School was too strong for Portland. The goalies in both teams did well. In the B grade, United was two short, but beat Bargain Stores. R. Kennett was outstanding on defence for School B against Arahi, whose defence also was good. Convent C and Monks played open basketball in their C grade match. Monks showed improved team work. School C defence was good against Huia. Results were: A GRADE Wisemans 27, Athletic 11; School A 15, Portland C. B GRADE Old Girls B 20, Convent B 10: United 10, Bargain Stores 9: School 26. Arahi 9. C GRADE Manaia 20, Hikurnnsi 16: Convent C 10, Monks 6; Huia 20, School C 13; YWCA C 24, Farmers’ Trading 2.
