Disappointed With Brstisli Aid Centre
Petrol For Supervisor
While the Aid for Britain council appreciates the importance of the work of the Northland District Pig Council it cannot see its way clear to exert pressure for an additional allocation of petrol for the council’s supervisor. This was the gist of a letter received at today’s meeting of the pig council from the Food for Britain Committee. At its last meeting- the council was informed by its supervisor (Mr H. H Preston) that a proper service to farmers, would not be practicable unless an allowance of 75 gallons per month was made. His present allocation was 45 gallons. The council resolved to write to the Food for Britain committee pointing out t\e need for more petrol to enable the work of encouraging pig meat production to proceed without hindrance.
“PRODUCTION MUST DECLINE” The committee’s reply met an unfavourable reception today. “I am not at all Satisfied with the reply,” said Mr - J. W. Byers (Kaikohe).
“Extra buses are being put on the road every day and, if we cannot get enough petrol, a curtailment of our supervisor’s activities will be unavoidable and production in Northland must decline. “We should try again—I would not mind if they were consistent but they are not,” he added. REPRESENTATIONS TO M.P.S “I’m disguested with this Aid for Britain Council—they have gone down a long way in my estimation,” Mr F. D. Miller (Warkworth) commented.
Mr Byers then moved that the council should approach- the Northland M.P.s drawing their attention to the fact that organisations such as pig councils were being restricted in their activities by petrol allocations while there appeared to be liberal petrol for use in other directions. Mr Miller seconded and the motion was carried unanimously.
