Meire Pigs Killed in N.Z. This Year
An overall increase in the number of pigs killed during the eight months ended May 31, 1948. was reported tc the ■ Northland District Pig Council at its meeting at Whangarei today. The national superintendent advised that 591,369 pigs were killed during this period as against 590,164 for the same months in the previous season representing an increase of 1204.
The most encouraging aspect of this figure was that the number of baconei’s \killed rose by 6332, from 388,522 to 394,854.
Porkers decreased by 3698 from 180,618 to 176,920, while choppers also declined by 1430 from 2i\024 to 19,594 April killings showed a substantia] increase in all departments, the total gain being 9238 spread among porkers (6014), baconers (3014) and choppers (210).
May figures showed a big decline being 20.329 less than the total for May, 1947. Baconers accounted for 10,610 of the drop and porkers fell 9223.
