NEWS OF THE DAY
BOYS’ H.S. PRIZEGIVING Next Wednesday prizes won last year by pupils of the Whangarei Boys’ High School are to be presented after the morning assembly. Prizewinners who have since left the school are invited to be present to receive their trophies, which will be presented by Mr A. R. Ryder, who recently retired from the position of headmaster.
RUNAWAY HORSE A somewhat nerve-wracking experience was suffered yesterday by Mr E. K. Plaisted, of Whangarei, when his horse bolted, after being frightened by traffic in Maunu Road. Mr Plaisted was riding the horse, and leading another. He was near the Church of Christ when the led horse took fright and bolted. The animal Mr Plaisted was riding followed the other horse, and it was not until near the hospital that the rider was able to get it under control. Mr Plaisted has been riding horses for about 60 years, but this was the first time one had bolted with him.
