'Quake Fund For Particular Purpose
GISBORNE. Sat. (P.A.) .—Argument
that the Earthquake Fund should be drawn on to provide relief for flood sufferers in Poverty Bay was advanccd to the Minister of Agriculture Mr Cullen who said the fund vvas established by statute for a particular purpose.
! It could not be diverted from that - purpose, even though it might seen i desirable to many people. The money I was levied from insurers all over the country and held in trust for emergencies. Under original objects and statutes contributors would have every right j to criticise any diversion of funds to ether purposes. : The provision of finance to meet 1 emergency in Fovertv Bay was an | obligation of the Government and ’ there was no suggestion that funds would be inadequate.
