Live Pigs For Disease Research

Three live pigs infected by the foot disease which has caused concern among Northland pig breeders are to be sent to the Wallaceville Research Station next week. The Department of ■ Agriculture s veterinary officer at Whangarei (Mr D. M. Corbett) said today that experiments would be carried out to see if the disease could be transmitted from one animal to another.

In the past numerous specimens of infected trotters have been sent to the station for examination, and the stage has now been reached in the research where live pigs are needed so that the various phases of the disease can be analysed.
