Transport drivers handling fertilisers from the Cape York at Port Whangarei are to receive 1/- an hour extra payment as dirt money. This is the decision of the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr C. L. Hunter).

When members of the Whangarei branch of the Drivers’ Union sought a payment of 2/6 an hour extra as dirt money, the question was referred to the commissioner who visited Whangarei, and conferred with representatives of the Road Transport Alliance and the union.

Subsequently it was announced that decision had been reserved.

The decision granting the drivers an extra 1/- an hour applies only to the handling of fertiliser from the Cape York. DRIVERS QUITE lIAPPY
