American Awards
WELLINGTON, Tug. (P.A.) ceremony on March 17 the American Minister (Mr Robert Scotten) will confer a number of American decorations on members of the New Zealand armed forces and one civilian. Those being decorated include: — Legion of Merit, degree of officer. Major-General N. W. McD. Weir, Chief of the General Staff; Brigadier K. L Stewart. Adjutant-General; Captain A D. Boyle, R.N. (ret.), of Timaru, who was naval officer-in-charge at Lyttelton and Wellington during the war; Lieutenant-Colonel L. M. Chapman; Commander H. R. Sleemen. R.N.. assistant Naval Secretary; Commander Thomas S. Critchley. R.N. (ret.), who was naval officer-in-charge at Suva early in the war; Squadron Leader L. A. Furness, of Palmerston North, who was accountant-auditor to the British Air Commission in the United States. Legion of Merit (Legionnaire): Group Captain John Seabrook, who was attached to the Air. Attache’s office in Washington between 1942 and 1944; Major William Wood. Distinguished Civilian Service Award: Mr Charles E. Hubbard, of Hamilton.
