Bargain Stores' 21st Anniversary Social
Celebrating the 21st anniversary of the establishment of Bargain Stores Ltd. Whangarei, the present staff and the original first-year members met at dinner, and all past employees at a dance. Twenty-one years ago last Friday the store opened for business on the site of the present hardware department. In celebration, a birthday cake was cut by Mrs C. Dobbs, one of the original staff members. There was also an imitation cake which stood lift high. Toasts honoured at the dinner were: The King; the Bargain Stores, (Mr E. Woledge—Mr H. P. McKenzie); the Tudehope Family (Mr S. H. Phillips— Mr J. S. T. Tudehope); First-year Staff Members (Mr L. Marshall —Mrs C. Dobbs); Absent Friends (Mr J. J. Roberts). Musical honours were accorded. Miss .M. Finlayson providing the music. HAPPY COINCIDENCE The dance which followed the dinner was an enjoyable function, with exemployees renewing acquaintances. It had been decided that a silver mug would be presented to every Whangarei baby born on Friday. Only one, however, qualified, this being the son of Mrs N. Broughton, a former member of the staff.
