Really Good Fishing

“As Captain Fagen said, this is what you would really call good fishing—and that is a gross understatement. “The scarcity of bait at times was a little handicap, but the weather was propitious and not one day was lost through that cause. “We fished for 35 days altogether. From the Manana 111, in 32 days, 29 fish were caught.’’ From the Blue Fin, nine fish were taken in 20 days, from the Rosemary, nine in 11 days, from the Ozone seven in nine days, and from the Lorna Doone, one in seven days, Mr Anderson continued.

The largest fish was a 5001 b. black marlin, caught by Mrs G. J. Hassall, fishing as a member o£ the expedition.

The heaviest striped marlin was taken by the leader’s son, John W. Anderson 11,, who landed a 3361 b. fish. The heaviest mako, of 321 lb., was taken by the expedition’s taxidermist, Mr E. C. Migdalski. John W. Anderson caught the heaviest weight of game fish, his catch totalling 2019 lb. At the conclusion of the expedition’s work in New Zealand Mr and Mrs W. D. Sidley (Wyoming) commenced a world tour, by way of India, Cairo and Rome.

Mr and Mrs S. T. Holliday (Indianapolis). Mr and Mrs J. Lakin Baldridge) and Mr Ernest L-. King junr. (Nevada) left last week for Australia and are to fly back to America this week. Mr and Mrs Anderson and their son leave tomorrow for Australia where they will spend a fortnight before flying to Singapore, South Africa, Argentine and Brazil before returning to Detroit.

Next year they will probably be engaged in research work- with the

expedition off the west coast of South America, in the vicinity of Chile and Peru. Mr Anderson said that he hoped to revisit New Zealand on holiday every alternate year, it possible. The expedition’s launch Manana 111 will probably leave New Zealand on the freighter Highland Prince on April 8 or 9.
