Lincolnshire Like Charge Of Light Brigade
LONDON, Mon. (10 a.m.).—Saturday’s Lincolnshire, . with its world record entry of 58, was compared with the charge of the Light Brigade. It was one of the finest spectacles seen in recent racing history. The winner, Commissar, by Sir Cosmo out of Salar, is eight years old. It was only the filth time that a horse over six years of age has won the Lincolnshire and the first time, since 1893 that the race has been won by an aged horse. BOUGHT FOR 270GNS
Commissar was bought by Budgett Brothers for 270gns. He broke down as a three-year-old and did not run again until he was six, when he won the Goodwood Steward’s Cup. Racing interest now centres in the 4J-miie Grand National, to be run at Aintree next Saturday. There are 46 acceptors and the favourite is Silver Fame, owned by Lord Bicester. He will carry list 61b.
Silver Fame is unbeaten over fences this year and has won five chases at distances from two miles to three miles five furlongs'. Others fancied are Rowland Roy, Cloncurrig, Cromwell, Loughconn and Loyal Antrim.
