Hundreds reefs Tracing Scottish Ancestry
DUNEDIN, Tue. (P.A.)—Hundreds of registration _ forms for distribution to people interested in tracing their Scottish ancestry were unpacked by Sir John Falconer, former Lord Provost: of Edinburgh, in Dunedin this morning.
They have been issued by the Scots Ancestry Research Society, an organisation formed in 1945 by the then Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr Thomas Johnston), dedicated to binding to the homeland those of 1 Scottish blood. “The interest of Scots all over the world in Scotland seems to have increased,” said Sir John, who is here for the centennial celebrations. “We are most anxious that the Scottish bonds should be strengthened and the research society is one medium being developed. “Anyone of Scottish origin who has lost touch with the lines of his ancestry can apply, and an official search will be made to discover his Scottish descent,” he added.
A nominal fee is charged for registration, if in the opinion of the society it seems likely that the old registers of Scotland will yield information of interest to the applicant. An estimate will be given of the further cost involved, which will not usually be more than £3 for a search going back 150 years. The society is a non-profit-making organisation. Copies of the application form can be obtained on application to Sir John.
