Speaking the appointment of Mr G. 11. Lloyd as chief fire officer for the Whangarei County on Friday, Cr H. A. Teal is reA BURNING ported in the Ad-, QUESTION ' vocate .as saying: “Roadside and fence lines should be burned off to prevent cars being scratched.” Now, sir, this is a most reprehensible practice, except in very exceptional circumstances. During my term as a councillor on the Masterton and Ekctahuna County Councils from 1509 to 1920 .it was a most serious offence for a roadman to start a fire. It should be the same in Northland, where, every summer, mute evidence in dead and scorchdd roadside scenery is only too prevalent. Cr Teal must be fortunate enough to have a clean.* road frontage.—CHAS. CROSS.
