Paid Extra For Unusual Work

CHRISTCHURCH, Mon. (P.A.) A charge of paying a carpenter, J. Brehaut, more than the basic rate, contrary to the Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations, which was brought against the Williamson Construction Company, was dismissed by Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The prosecution said Brehaut had been paid 3/9 an hour, but defence counsel submitted that the extra payment was made for dirty work done on the Christchurch Hospital job. The magistrate said there were grounds for holding that Brehaut’s work was of an unusual nature.
