Aero Club Convicted
HASTINGS, Sat. (PA-.). A reserved judgment that flights conducted by the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club at its membership drive on People’s Day of the Royal Show at Tomoana were for the purpose of hire or reward was given by Mr H. Jenner Wily, S.M, in the Magistrate’s Court.
He entered convictions against the club on charges of carrying passengers for hire from an unlicenced aerodrome and of engaging an unlicenced pilot to carry fare-paying passengers. He also convicted the pilot, Allan Everard Ingram, on a count of carrying passengers in an aircraft for hire, without the prescribed certificates of competency and licence. As the hearing was in the nature of a test case, the magistrate entered only nominal penalties of £1 with costs on each charge.
A further charge against the aero club of operating from an unlicensed aerodrome while carrying passengers was dismissed, it being held that this information was covered by one of the others.
