Katui Case Now Proved Positive
Infantile Paralysis . . .
The 16-year-old Maori girl from Katui, near Donnelley’s Crossing, who was admitted to'the Northern Wairoa Hospital at Te Kopuru as a suspect infantile paralysis case, has now been proved as a positive case. As a result of this, the Katui school has been closed, said the medical officer of health for Northland (Dr J: L. Newman) this morning.
Other schools in the area will remain open, as the girl had not been in contact with children at these schools, Dr Newman said. No fresh cases have occurred in Hokianga or Bay of Islands. IN AUCKLAND, WAIKATO
In the Central Auckland health district one more positive and another suspected case were reported yesterday. The positive case is a 23-year-old man, who was admitted to the Auckland Hospital on Wednesday. The suspected case is also a man from a district near the city. Another suspected case was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. The case is a five-year-old girl from Frankton, making yesterday’s suspected cases in the hospital three. Positive infantile paralysis cases in Auckland Hospital now total 42. There are three suspects.
