Portland Main Highway; Heads Road Overlooked
ONLY road in the Whangarei County to be declared a main highway is the Portland Road, 2m. lOch. in length.
Conveying' this information to the Whangarei County Council today, the Whangarei representative of the Main Highways Board (Mr L. May) said recommendations of all district highway councils had been considered carefully but the board found it possible to recommend the declaration of only a limited length of additional highway. Cn the motion of tire county chairman (Mr J. Morrison) the council lesclved:—
“To express great disappointment that the ’.board has not found tit to declare the Tamaterau-Ccean Beach read a main highway in view v of the fact that this road has long been recommended for first priority by this council and the highways council. "The Portland Road is very importtant, but the very fact that the council and the highways council recommended priority for the Heads Read, implies that it should have been considered as well as the Portland Road.
