Boy Killed At Fsaiburns
KAITAIA, Fri. (Sp.)—Crushed between two logs while helping his father with loading operations late yesterday afternoon, an 11-year-old boy was killed instantly. He was John Michael Coulter, only son of Mr and Mrs Albert Blakely Coulter, of Duncan’s Road. Fairburns. His father is a farmer and sawmiller of Fairburns. living some 14 miles from Kaitaia. After helping with the evening milking. the boy joined his father at the back of the farm about two miles from the house, where Mr Coulter was loading log's on to a motor truck. Mr Coulter had jacked the log on to the bolster when another relied from the bank a few let distant. Endeavouring to jump clear the lad apparently slipped and his head was crushed between the butt-end of the rolling log and the log' already- in the truck. A frantic effort by his father to pull him clear was unsuccessful. The fatality occurred at 6.45 p.m.
