Friendship With Dyke-Of Edinburgh
AUCKLAND. Fri. (P.A.)—Two men inet in a bar in Colombo and struck up a* friendship. One was Mr C. Coularn, now back in Auckland after 15 years, and the other was the present Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Princess Elisabeth.
Mr Coularn was in Australia at the outbreak of war and joined the Australian Imperial Force, and the Duke of Edinbudgh was with HMS Ramifies, which escorted the troopship in which Mr Coularn travelled to the Middle East.
They met in the Colombo bar and Mr Coularn since has had two letters from the Duke, one of which is a reply to a letter of congratulation on the occasion of the Royal wedding, and which states, in part: “Than'K you for your charming letter Of congratulation and for the nice things you say. “It was indeed a pity we could not meet again while I was out in Australia.’’ It was signed: “Philip Mounlbatten.’’
