Withdraws 75 P.C.
Duty On U.S* Films LONDON, Thu. (11 a.m.)—'The President of the Board of Trade (Mr Wilson) announced in the House of Commons today that the 75 per cent ad valorem duty on American films imported into Britain, imposed in August. 1947. would be withdrawn, and normal exports from Hollywood would be resumed as soon as possible. Mr Wilson said the film agreement was for four years, and would operate from June 14.
The agreement fixed the film earnings to be remitted to the United States for new films and re-issues at $17,000,000 a year for the first two years. Mr Wilson added that Britain at present was paying at the rate of approximately $50,000,000 a year as remittances of re-issues of films already in Britain.
Additional remittances in dollars of sums equivalent to the earnings of British films in the United States would be permitted.
