Urgent Meeting Of FOL On Carpenters Dispute

WELLINGTON, Thu. (Sp.).—The executive of the New Zealand Federation of Labour has decided to hold another urgent meeting of the national council on Sunday morning to consider developments in the carpenters’ dispute. Indications are that the dispute may not reach an early settlement.

The national executive of the federation met in the Wellington Trades Hall yesterday morning. A deputation from the federation later met members of the national executive of the New Zealand Master Builders' Federation. It is understood that the deputation raised the sug-

gestion originating from the Federation oi Labour that a tribunal should be established to hear the carpenters’ claims.

The president of the Master Builders' Federation (Mr S. G. Shearer) said last night that the builders had informed the federation representatives that they reaffirmed their previous stand that the matter should go before the Court of Arbitration. Mr Shearer added that no further statement would be issued by the builders. The meeting of the Master Builders’ Federation lasted throughout the day and continued last night.
