2 NzEF Men Prefer To Stand On Own Feet

“WE want to stand on our own feet and take our place in the community. We do not want anybody in the future pointing a finger at us and saying we got priority because we were returned men.’'

So said the newly-elected ch. of the 2nd NZEF Association (Mi

lirrnan of the Whangarei branch ' <T- R. McCorquindale) last night. STREET COLLECTION The association had been granted Friday, Marcn 19, as a street collection day for the Sick and Wounded Appeal. A sub-committee comprising Messrs Philpott. Harrison and Messenger was set up to handle this. Messrs McCorquindale and Harrison reported on the biannual conference of the association held in Auckland recently and which they had attended as branch delegates.

In this respect Mr McCorquindale said he would like to see members endorse the association’s policy on state house allocations, which was that houses be allocated according to need and not on a preference basis.

The local executive would soon be considering remits for the annual conference and Mr McCorquindale suggested that members should consider the present housing position so that an appropriate remit along these lines could go forward. Believing that in an ex-service association the position of chairman should rotate each year. Mr G. Gray declined re -nomination.

OFFICERS ELECTED The election of officers for the ensuing 12 months resulted: Patron, Mr 11. G. Carruth; chairman. Mr J. R. McCorquindale; vice-chairman. Mr N. Harrison (all unopposed); general committee, Messrs B. Spring, E. J. Roughton. S. C. Messenger, L. N. Griffiths, B. Crispin and A. L. Patterson; secretary-treasurer, Mr F. J. Philpott; honorary solicitor, Mr B. Spring. .The retiring president (Mr G. Gray) was appointed to the executive committee (ex officio).
