Sterling Devaluation?

LONDON, Thu. —Rumours that the British Government was considering the devaluation of the pound sterling were widely current yesterday on the London Stock Exchange and the Paris Bourse.

A Treasury official told the Financial Times last night that the Treasury could not imagine how such rumours originated. “Of course,” says the Financal Times in a leading article, “no Government contemplating a change in the value of its , currency . would be foolish enough to advertise its intentions in advance, but sooner or later the devaluation prophets will be right.”
