Prices Up At First London Wool Sale
LONDON, Thu. (12.45 p.m.).—The first wool sales for 1948 opened today with offering's totalling 12,795 bales, of which 11.931 were sold. New Zealand submitted 6234 bales and Australia 5318. Offerings were of moderate selection and met with a sustained demand and excellent clearance. Scoured Merinos sold up to 751 d, with Merinos and cross-breds generally five to ten per cent dearer than the closing prices of the final series last year. Bradford prices: Tops: Merinos 70s. 88d; 645, 82d; 60s 80d. Crosbreds: 565. 52d; 50s, 41d; 465, 36d.
