Recommend School Of Forestry For N.Z.

DUNEDIN, Thu. (P.A.)—The establishment of a degree of Bachelor of Forestry Science and the setting up of one school of forestry, directly connected with one of the existing leaching colleges of the University, is recommended in the report of the Academicy Board Committee, tabled at a meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand today. The meeting further recommended that the school be attached to either Canterbury or Auckland College's. Considerably' more basic science subjects than are contained in the present Bachelor of Science Statute are recommended. including a selection from botany, zoology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, physical geology and economics.

FOUR-YEAR COURSE The proposed course is four years, with the first two years in science subjects to be taken at any of the constituent colleges and the third and fourth years, embracing foiestry subjects to be taken at the School of Forestry. Every effort should be made to begin teaching in the School of Forestry in the first term of 1949, adds the report. The final decision on the site of the school should be left until a report is received from Professor Wadham, of the University of Melbourne.
