Police Searching For Converters, Thieves
NAPIER, Fri. CP.A.). —Following a series of motor car conversions and thefts in the Hawke’s Bay area in the past week, police throughout tiro North Island are searching for two young Maoris who are believed to be in possession of a small car which disappeared from Napier on Wednesday night.
On Tuesday night clothing worth about £360 was stolen from a drycleaning premises at Hastings, while a car was stolen in Hasting and an attempt was made to steal petrol from a storage tank at Bayview, near Napier. Thieves, though surprised in the act, escaped but the police recovered two cars, one of which had been reported missing from Auckland. On Wednesday the premises of a Chinese at Bayview was entered and two suits of clothing and £25 in cash stolen.
The number plates of the Auckland car were changed at New Plymouth earlier in the week.
