Land Settlement At Gisborne
The Minster of Lapds and Rehabilitation (Mr Skinner) will be invited by ex-servicemen to discuss possible improvements on their blocks at Gisborne. The executive was informed that the main grievances of the men were the continuance beyond reasonable expectation of the use of temporary accommodation; the direction of their work to the maintenance of station stock and equipment rather than to the improvement of the blocks with a view to eventual subdivision; the payment of sub-standard wages by the Lands Department to men recruited initially for interim ’occupation of the blocks; and a general lack of progress toward the ultimate goal of settlement on their own sections.
