Further Probe into Whangarei Values
Further inquiry into objections to Whangarei Borough valuations is being made by the Valuation Department. The district valuer, Auckland (Mr R. S. MeNabbt is visiting Whangarei to adjust the values of properties, the owners of which have sought amendment to valuations. Yesterday afternoon he conferred with the Mayor (Mr W. Jones), the chairman of the council's finance committee (Cr W. L. McKinnon), the town clerk (Mi- L. O. Hall) and the borough solicitor (Mr D. J. Thomson). The question of borough valuations was discussed, but no statement was available today. ADJUSTED VALUES In view of the large number of objections to assessments resulting from the revaluation of borough propertylast year, the Valuer-General lodged a blanket objection to cover the whole of the borough. Adjustments were made to values of business area properties, the owners of which had objected. Notices of the adjusted valuations were issued to the objecting owners, who had the right to make further objections by today. If any objections to the amended values are lodged by today it seems likely that they will be dealt with by the Assessment Court which is scheduled to sit in Whangarei on February 2, 3 and 4.
