Explosion On Launch
THAMES. Wed. <Sp.>— Four persons on board the Thames launch Firefly had an alarming experience when the vessel was some three miles out from the Thames coast. Noticing that something was wrong wit!) the running of the engine, the owner (Mr J. Adamson) attempted an adjustment. An explosion occurred which blew a one-gallon can of oil from his hand across the floor of the cabin, and tiro broke out immediately, enveloping the engine and the floor of the cabin. M r~Ad am son and the three passengers (Messrs H. T. Gallop. G. Webb and A. Rowe) fought the lire for over an hour before it was subdued. The launch was towed to Coromandel for repairs and was able to return to Thames under its own power.
