Timaru Wool Prices High
TIMARU, Tue. (Sp.).—A top price of for three bales of superfine Merino was realised at the first main wool sale of the season at Timaru yesterday. The total offering of 30.171 bales, sold between 9 a.m. and 8.50 p.m.. was estimated to return a cheque of £1,250.000 to the growers of the district. 90 per cent of whom were from South Canterbury and the Mackenzie Country. Merino wool from high country runholders opened out in excellent condition and was described as the best in quality of any Merino offerings in many years.
A buyer representing Bradford and Continental interests paid the top price of G2Jd. The next best price was 61 d for the best three bales of an entry of 32. Another lot of three bales brought 60 J ,d and, in several instances, prices for first quality fleece wool exceeded COd. PASSINGS NEGLIGIBLE Super half-bred hogget wool sold t 0 591 d, and super three-qurter hogget wool realised to 53id. Corriedale fleece made to 541 d, extra fine three-quarter bred reached 45Jd, average three-quarter bred from 28d to 3Gd and crossbred to 29d, with a few speciality wools slightly exceeding tins range. Dominion mills took the bulk of the Merino and fine half bred. Continental buyers took average to good fleece. Necks, pieces and bellies sold almost on a par with some of the fleece and competition for threequarter bred and crossbred was particularly keen*. A:;SS.IHSi
Large lines of bin wools met animated competition from a full bench of buyers. Passings throughout the shlc were almost negligible.
