Sledge-Hammer Politics In Bulgarian Parliament

SOFIA, Tue. (10 a.m.).--The Bulgarian Premiei (hi. Dimitrov) has threatened nine members ot the Socialist Opposition ip Parliament with a lesson they will remember until they “meet Saint Peter.”

They called the Budget insincere and unreal, and said they would vote against it. M. Dimitrov said: “I warned your allies from Petkov's group a number of times. “They did not listen. “Their leader is under the ground. “You must think over whether you want to share the fate of your allies. “If you are unwise and do not try to gain wisdom, you will receive a lesson from the nation that you w ill remember until you meet Saint Peter. In Bulgaria, last September, the Communist - dominated Government silenced Nikola Dimitrov Petkov after his conviction on treason' charges. Petkov, was leader of the democratic Agrarian Party. He fought the Nazis and spent part

of the war behind German barbed wire. , .. After the Russians nut the small Bulgarian Communist Party into power, Petkov opposed the Communists. The British and United States Governments sent stinging, but futile, notes of protest during the trial and after the execution.

AWKWARD TO EXPLAIN Mr Paul. Verschaffelt, who some years ago was Public Service Commissioner, has had the rare experience of being able to read his own obituary notice in a newspaper. The report of his death published in the Southern Cross has no foundation in fact. As Mark Twain once remarked, Mr Versdyiffelt can say that, “the report is greatly exaggerated.”
