NSW Tenants May Buy State Houses
SYDNEY, Wed. (11.30 a.m.).—Tenants of houses built by the Housing Commission will be given an opportunity to buy their homes, according to a decision by the New South Wales Cabinet.
Tenants who decide to buy will be credited with part of the amount they paid in rent. The Premier (Mr McGirr) said that prices would be based on costs, and that the option of purchase would apply to all Housing - Commission homes, including those erected in future.
If they did not wish to buy, tenants would have the right to remain in occupation. By the end of 1947 the Housing Commission had completed 5250 permanent homes.
