1019 Miles An Hour On Land
NEW YORK, Tuo. (10 a.m.)— The Northrop Aircraft Company announced at Muroc Airbase, California, that in supersonic barrier experiments it had sent unmanned land vehicles hurtling over tracks at 1019 miles an hour. These rocket-powered vehicles, with runners gripping the rails, were sent over a section of stan-dard-gauge railway track.
