£SOO Taken From House
AUCKLAND. Tues. <Sp.) A resident oi' South Road. Henderson. Mis E. M. Markwick. made an unwelcome discovery when she returned to her home from a holiday. The proceeds of an auction sate, amounting to £SOO. which had been left in her purse in a drawer of a roll-top desk, had been stolen. In addition clothing valued at £SO had been taken
The thieves had slept in one of the beds, and had eaten food in the house. A man's blue suit with a faint pinstripe. a navy overcoat with a fine white stripe, and a double-breasted oyercoat, air force blue in colour, were among the stolen clothes. A silver pocket watch and two ration books, numbered 52090 and 52091 were also taken.
The theft is being investigated by Sergeant A. Johnston, of the city detective office, who is also conducting a search for three young escapees from the Auckland Mental Hospital. The three patients for whom Sergeant Johnston is looking escaped from the mental hospital on January 2. They are between 20 and 30 years of age. Their heights are sft Sin, sft Gin, and sft Yin. One has fair hair, another brown hair and the other very dark hair
