The people of the British Commonwealth believe in the democratic way of life. For this, they are willing to pay more, and POWER BOARD wait longer for reBUSINESS suits through their democratically - elected public bodies. This very vital principle was raised by Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay at the North Auckland Power Board meeting when he moved (supported by Mr A. Clarke) that business be dealt with in open meeting. The public who pays, should be informed by the chairman and other members of the board why they are not qualified to know the business of tne board. How can they take an intelligent interest in an election of members—the very foundation of democracy—unless they know the views of individual members on the board's business ? One of the greatest safeguards of 'democracy is to give the fullest publicity to all questions of public interest, and" I, one of the interested public, hope that the board will adopt the suggestion made by Messrs Mac Kay and Clarke. —L. J. BRAKE.
