Hikurangi Miners Start At Kamo
The Hikurangi miners commenced work at the state mine at Kamo this morning, after four months’ absence from their mining occupation. The manager of the state piine (Mr J. Hadcroft) said today that they had accepted the proposals put forward at a conference between himself anu Miners’ Union delegates on Friday. This morning they travelled by bu* to their new' place of employment Everything was going ahead without a hitch. Mr Hadcroft said.
The ex-Waro men met yesterday to hear from their president (Mr C. A. Latham) an outline of the arrange ments of their employment, which will be mainly on reconstructional work, until more coal winning places can be made. When this has been done, and when a double drum haulage system has been installed, production from the mine is expected to increase considerably.
