Sent Home From Japan
SYDNEY, Mon.— An officer of the public relations division of the Ministry of Reconstruction, Mr Robert Record, has been sent back from Japan on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (Lieutenant-General H. C. Robertson).
Mr Record was to have provided information to help soldiers with their post-war problems. The Sunday Sun says it is believed that criticism of Australian Army officers, culminating in a scene between Mr Record and General Robertson in the mess, resulted in Mr Record’s recall. Relations between the Army and the Reconstruction Department are strained. Army officers are incensed about an anonymously written article appearing in tiie Sydney ex-servicemen’s newspaper accusing Australian officers in Japan of over-drinking and underworking.
