Second Paralysis Death In Waikato

HAMILTON, Mon. (Sp.).—On two successive days at the week-end deaths from infantile paralysis occurred at the Waikato Hospital. The first fatal case in the South Auckland district was a three-month-old child from Taupiri who died on Friday.

On Saturday a boy of 13 who was admitted from Horotiu on Monday, died.

Two further suspected cases have been admitted to the Waikato Hospital. One is a boy of two years from Morrinsville and the other a woman of 24 from Te Kauwhata.

AUCKLAND’S CLEAR WEEK-END

No new cases were reported in_the central Auckland health district during the week-end and no suspected cases were admitted to the Auckland Hospital.

There were 51 positive and three suspect cases in the hospital last night. Seven positive cases have been reported during the past week, compared with six the previous week and 11 the week before.

Four positive cases were discharged last week, ’bringing the total number of cases discharged to 25, and six patients were transferred to other hospitals. The number of positive cases in infantile paralysis reported since the outbreak began on November 15 has now reached 146. The totals to date for the various health districts are as follows: Auckland, 90; Northland, 2; South Auckland, 27; Thames-Tauranga, ,2; Gisborne, 1; Taranaki, 13; Wangartui, 3; Wellington 6; Canterbury 2.
